Cline

Cline is a VS Code extension that plans and edits code with your approval at each step. Its OpenAI Compatible provider accepts any endpoint, so NextModel is one form away.

Quick start

  1. Get your NextModel API Key

Create a key in the NextModel console — Cline will send it with every request.

  2. Install the Cline extension in VS Code

Or search for Cline in the Extensions view and install it there.

    Shell
    code --install-extension saoudrizwan.claude-dev
  3. Choose OpenAI Compatible and fill in the provider fields

In Cline's settings set API Provider to OpenAI Compatible (not OpenAI), Base URL to https://api.nextmodel.app/v1, API Key to your NextModel key, and Model ID to claude-sonnet-4-5.

  4. Give Cline a first task

Start a task in the Cline panel — requests are billed to your NextModel key.

FAQ

I don't see a Base URL field

That field only appears for the OpenAI Compatible provider. Switch from OpenAI to OpenAI Compatible at the top of the provider form.

Which Model ID should I type?

The exact ID your endpoint serves — claude-sonnet-4-5 for this guide. Cline sends the string as-is.

Who bills the requests?

Every call goes to your base URL with your key, so usage lands on your NextModel account rather than a provider plan inside Cline.

Troubleshooting

401 or 403 in the Cline log

The key field easily keeps a stale value. Re-paste your key, save, and retry the task.

Model not found errors

The Base URL must include /v1 and the Model ID must match exactly — both mistakes surface as model-not-found from the endpoint.
